Fortunes

fortunes

For iPhone users, download a free app and explore Bristol city centre from a totally new angle.  Available as a free download from Apple's app store, 'Fortunes' takes you from M Shed around the centre of the city making your way in life in the Bristol of the 1870s.  Based upon a map in the collections of the Bristol Record Office the app uses elements of treasure hunt and street games to take you along the harbourside and through the streets around the city centre. Dodging muggers, constables and the temptations of a bustling port, the aim of the game is to find the jobs, partner and connections you need to increase your social status and respectability, ultimately becoming mayor of Bristol!

Bristol Museums, Galleries & Archives has worked with Calvium and Watershed as part of a research collaboration funded by the Technology Strategy Board, to commission Bristol-based games developer SlingShot to produce this iphone app. An android version will be able soon.

A Time Traveller's Guide to Bristol

By visiting www.atimetravellersguide.com (or downloading the free iPhone app) you can explore several locations around Bristol and witness how they have changed over time.  A combination of digitised archive film footage, photographs, audio and imaginative 3D reconstructions bring these places vividly to life.

The guide has been produced by The World of Arthur Cox in collaboration with Bristol Museums, Galleries & Archives and the University of Bristol and the BBC.  You can upload your own memories and images to help build the site further.

M Shed galleries

In M Shed you will find information about Bristol and Bristol people provided through a variety of digital media.  Film, photos, the spoken word and music are all used around the gallery displays.  In addition you can find more on the computer kiosks which are scattered throughout and which provide more information on the themes and stories explored in the displays.  This information is also reproduced here on the M Shed website.  As with the Time Traveller's Guideyou can upload your own memories, photographs and film.
