M Shed, Bristol's new, flagship museum and one of the UK's most
innovative and ambitious museum developments has been nominated and
short-listed for the coveted European Museum of the Year Award.
Now in its 35th year, the annual European Museum of the Year
Award is the most prestigious museum award in Europe. It stands for
innovation, public quality and professional excellence in museums
and brings together both professional reputation and public benefit
under one umbrella.
For 2012, nearly 60 museums were nominated, of these; just under
50 museums from 18 European countries have made the short list,
with ten museums from around the UK, including Bristol's own M
Shed. A panel of judges from the European Museum Forum will meet to
consider the merits, strengths and unique qualities of the short
listed museums to determine the overall winner.
The winner of the European Museum of the Year Award 2012 will be
announced as part of the EMF 2012 Assembly in Penafiel, Portugal,
from 16 to 19 May 2012. Other awards, such as the Kenneth Hudson
Award, Silletto Prize for Volunteers will also be announced at the
Assembly.
